Houtan Yaghmai

Yaghmai Law Firm, APC
Sherman OaksCA

Yaghmai Law Firm exists to even the imbalance between people and the institutions that affect their lives — insurance companies, USCIS, consulates, large corporations. We represent injured people across California and immigrant petitioners worldwide who need an advocate willing to read the file, learn the facts, and actually fight — not posture.

Houtan founded the firm in August 2015 in Los Angeles. The work grew from a question he kept asking himself in law school: who speaks for the person who can’t speak for themselves? He thought about his sister Hasti, who is developmentally disabled and has spent her life relying on others to advocate for her. He thought about the artists and musicians he spent his clerkship years representing through Thomas Jefferson’s Arts and Entertainment Law Project — clients who created real value but had no leverage against the institutions deciding their fate. The firm is built around that question.

Houtan grew up in Toronto and moved to California in 2005 for college at the University of California, Riverside, where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration. He attended Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego beginning in 2010, where he received a Jeffersonian Fellowship for academic achievement and served as Treasurer of both the Student Bar Association and the Middle Eastern Law Students Association. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 2014 (License No. 298487) and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).

The firm represents personal injury clients across California and immigration clients worldwide. Houtan handles every matter directly — there is no intake team, no screening assistant. He is fluent in English, French, and Persian (Farsi); Spanish is available through a qualified interpreter when needed.
